The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast’s BGC Active Department encompasses multiple focuses on reach as well as services for members and families. BGC Active includes Youth Sports Leagues, Recreational Sports & Partnerships, and Triple Play. The BGC Active Department aims to support the organizational mission along with two main departmental goals:
- Provide healthy lifestyle education to the whole family
- Create a healthy & competitive environment for recreational sports leagues

Team Placement
For Kinder (Co-Ed), Girls Grades 1-4, & Boys Grades 1-2
- Every team will have 10 players maximum
- Build your own team of friends or register as an individual/group
- Final roster is to be submitted by team coach by October 1st
For Boys Grades 3-5
- Every team will have 8 players maximum
- Player Evaluation & Coach Draft
- Grade 3 Evaluation on October 21 @ 5pm
- Grade 4-5 Evaluation on October 21 @ 6:30pm
- Player Evaluation & Coach Draft
Practice Days Vary Based on Coach Preference
- Weeknights (PM), Saturday (AM/Early PM), Sunday (Early PM)
- Identify a coach for your 10 players maximum
- Coach must complete background check and fingerprinting
- Coach will communicate with BGC and provide a roster
- BGC will send out your team roster & schedule by October 25th
- BGC will place your child and send team communication & schedule by October 25th
- BGC will have an evaluation for each grade
- Boys Grade 3 Evaluation: Monday, October 21st @ 5pm – BGC Costa Mesa
- Boys Grade 4-5 Evaluation: Monday, October 21st @ 6:30pm – BGC Costa Mesa
- Practices begin the week of November 11th
- Games begin the week of December 2nd
- Uniforms will be distributed by November 15th
- All games are in the gym
- Practices are in the gym or on the outdoor court
- Players can play up in grade with parent permission; however, they may not play down in grade
- Grades K-2: Ball 27.5″ on 8′ hoop
- Grades 3-5: Ball 28.5″ on 10′ hoop
- We recommend 2 coaches per team and ALL coaches must be registered with BGC fingerprinting
- Please register on time to reserve your spot
- Do not go through the payment portion and reach out to [email protected] for an application
- Grades 1-5: Volunteer coach will pick the team’s practice day off preference
- Practice Day Options: Weekday – PM, Saturday – AM/early PM, Sunday – early AM/PM
- KINDER: During the season, practices will be 15 minutes before the game time only;
- Designed as a once-a-week program.
Volunteer Coaches are needed to make our leagues possible!
