Kids like Dani

Dani was falling behind academically when he first started attending the Club. Her mother, Claudia did the best to help, but as a single mother working full time, her capacity was limited. At the Club, Dani received help with her homework from her mentors on top of participating in the Club’s programs.

Within three months, Dani’s grades began to improve. Fast forward to today, a year later from when she first came to the Club, Dani has A’s in all of her classes. Not only that, Claudia has noticed an increase in confidence and is proud of Dani’s growth.

“The Club’s programs offered Dani a safe environment where she can learn and become confident. The Club mentors are helping make sure kids become successful adults,” Claudia says.

Teens Like Estrella

College Bound Academic Advisor and Member

Growing up in a low-income household, Estrella always felt that a college education was out of reach. After a Club Mentor convinced Estrella to enroll in the Club’s College Bound program, Estrella’s Academic Advisor helped her see that pursuing higher education was actually an attainable goal.

As a first-generation college student, Estrella’s family was unfamiliar with the college application process. Academic Advisors met and counseled Estrella’s parents to inform them about the process and costs associated with college and the value of earning an advanced degree. Today, Estrella is a UC Berkeley undergraduate, class of 2025.

“Club mentors see what I am capable of and push me to my full potential. The Club has given me many opportunities to break out of the world I know and expand my boundaries,” Estrella says.

Parents Like Lorena

As a young working mother of three, Lorena wanted to improve her language and education skills to earn her High School Equivalency certificate so she could earn a higher-paying job to better support her family.

Through the Club’s Family Strengthening program, Lorena participated in English as a second language classes, financial literacy workshops and healthy eating and healthy parenting classes.  Within 10 months of being enrolled in the Club’s program, Lorena received her High School Equivalency diploma.

“The help from the Club has helped me be a better mother and person. I know I wouldn’t have been able to get my diploma without the help of the Club staff. Now I can motivate my kids to work hard at school and show them it’s never too late to follow your dreams!” Lorena says.
